- **The "Wikimedia Commons" link under each image goes away.** The image itself is now the link, so the extra text is redundant. The caption stays, and so do the author and the licence when the file has them.

What changes

An article image before and after: before, the caption ends with a Wikimedia Commons link; after, the link is gone and clicking the image opens the file on Wikimedia Commons
Before (left) and after (right), mock-up. The dark label only shows where a click leads. Open Knowledge Association · Public domain · Wikimedia Commons

Why

Readers expect to click an image to see it larger or learn where it comes from; this is how Wikipedia and most sites work. The "Wikimedia Commons" text adds a line of clutter under every image, often on its own when the file needs no author credit.

How it works

Technical notes

In formatMediaFigureHtml, the is wrapped in an to commonsPageUrl (target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"), and the Commons backlink is dropped from the attribution line. Image files are already served from Agpedia, so nothing changes in how they load.

wfm, only question is if we can do something on mobile and other touch devices that makes it more obvious that it is an external link
