- After the February 2025 federal election the CDU planned to abolish the German Freedom of Information Act (Informationsfreiheitsgesetz), presented as administrative modernisation. Wikimedia Deutschland protested against the plan and the Act was retained; a reform was announced but not implemented. The association published a brochure arguing for a modern transparency law, and a handbook, "Generative KI für die Verwaltung?", arguing that classical rule-based systems are often better suited than generative AI where state decisions must remain traceable, rule-bound and reliable. In September 2025 it presented "Grundrechte im Digitalen", a volume with contributions from more than 25 experts. Together with the German Commission for UNESCO it published Till Kreutzer's guide "Open Content: Navigating Creative Commons Licenses".

Nach der Bundestagswahl im Februar 2025 plante die CDU, das Informationsfreiheitsgesetz (IFG) abzuschaffen. Verpackt als vermeintliche „Staatsmodernisierung“ hätte diese Änderung den Zugang zu Behördeninformationen erheblich erschwert. [...] Deshalb haben wir gegen die geplante Abschaffung protestiert. Und das mit Erfolg: Das IFG blieb erhalten. Eine Ankündigung zur Reform folgte, aber die Umsetzung steht weiter aus.
