- In August 2010, for the first time, the Wikimedia Foundation did not run the donation campaign on behalf of all international chapters, and many national organisations took it on themselves in the form of banner campaigns. A year later the task was explicitly assigned to Wikimedia Deutschland, on the grounds that a joint cross-border appeal for donations created too many legal weak points.
