- The March 21, 2019 blackout was decided by the volunteer community, not by Wikimedia Deutschland. In a preliminary vote more than two thirds of participants supported the protest, and in a second step more than 80 percent chose to shut the site down completely. It was the first time the German-language Wikipedia had closed for 24 hours. Wikipedia was itself exempt from the provisions of the copyright reform, so the shutdown was an act of solidarity with smaller and medium-sized forums, social networks and knowledge platforms.

[...] In einer Ur-Abstimmung schlossen sich mehr als zwei Drittel der Teilnehmenden der Forderung des Protestes an.
