- High-contrast imaging with adaptive optics at the Keck and Gemini telescopes revealed three planets orbiting HR 8799 at projected separations of 24, 38 and 68 astronomical units, with estimated masses of 5 to 13 Jupiter masses; images taken at different times show all three moving counter-clockwise around the star. Imaging is hard because planets are very close to, and far fainter than, their stars.
