The species is ecologically characterised as semi-deciduous, heliophytic, and selectively xerophytic, typical of the transition from Cerrado to semi-deciduous broadleaf forest. It occurs in both primary and secondary forest. Flowering occurs December–March; fruits ripen August–September. Seeds number approximately 1,720 per kg and germinate within 20–40 days at rates above 60%. Seedlings grow slowly in the field, not reaching 2 m height by 2 years of age.

C. langsdorffii reaches 10–15 m in height with trunks of 50–80 cm in diameter, has 3–5 pairs of leaflets measuring 4–5 cm × 2–3 cm, white flowers in terminal panicles, and monospermic pod fruit. Wood density is 0.70 g/cm³, straight or irregular grain, moderately heavy, with differentiated sapwood.
