- The species is ecologically characterised as semi-deciduous, heliophytic, and selectively xerophytic, typical of the transition from Cerrado to semi-deciduous broadleaf forest. It occurs in both primary and secondary forest. Flowering occurs December–March; fruits ripen August–September. Seeds number approximately 1,720 per kg and germinate within 20–40 days at rates above 60%. Seedlings grow slowly in the field, not reaching 2 m height by 2 years of age.
