origins-unresolved
Assertion
Hot Jupiters, the first exoplanets found around main-sequence stars, upended the Solar System-centric picture of planet formation. Only about 1% of Sun-like stars host one. Three classes of explanation have been proposed: formation in place, migration through the gas disk, and high-eccentricity tidal migration. More than 20 years after the first discovery there is no consensus on the main origin, and no single channel explains all the evidence.
Quote
