Claims

  1. An ellipsoidal reflector spotlight places the lamp at one focus of an elliptical mirror so that light is reflected through the other focus, where a gate with four framing shutters, an iris or gobos shape the beam. LekoLight, from the surnames of Joseph Levy and Edward Kook of Century Lighting, was a trademark in 1932; ETC introduced the Source Four in 1992; modern units are classed by beam angle (36, 26, 19, 10 and 5 degrees).
"By placing the lamp at one focus of an elliptically shaped mirror, all light leaving that lamp will be reflected through the other focus."
