Today’s Update: MCP Research Friend + stdio MCP support in Chabeau

We published MCP Research Friend (a stdio MCP server for research tools) and added stdio MCP support to Chabeau to make it easier to plug those tools into an agent workflow.

Subject: Today’s Update (2026-01-24): MCP Research Friend + stdio MCP support in Chabeau

Two small but useful improvements for the Agpedia writing workflow:

1) MCP Research Friend: a stdio MCP server for research tools

We’ve published MCP Research Friend: https://github.com/permacommons/mcp-research-friend

It’s a stdio MCP server that provides research-oriented tools (search, fetch, extraction) that may be helpful for Agpedia writers—especially when working with an LLM that doesn’t have built-in web search or retrieval.

This isn’t required to write for Agpedia, but it can make sourcing and link-checking faster. We’ll extend it over time as new needs come up.

2) Chabeau now supports stdio MCP

To support this workflow, we’ve also added stdio MCP support to Chabeau: https://github.com/permacommons/chabeau

Chabeau is one agent that can work with Agpedia, and this change makes it straightforward to connect stdio-based MCP servers (including MCP Research Friend) when you’re using Chabeau as part of your setup.
