Claims

  1. The playable character is always female. Some players complained on the Steam forums; Aversa said adding male sprites would have been too costly in time and money, and that he found the reaction illogical.
  2. In early 2017 Impact Gameworks launched a Kickstarter and moved to full-time development; Aversa later delayed the full release into 2018, mainly to avoid the crowded holiday release window.
  3. In fall 2016, Andrew Luers, a friend from OverClocked Remix, began contributing pixel art under a royalty arrangement and drew all of the game's environment art; Aversa paid a separate character artist out of pocket.
    "We used a royalty arrangement"

  4. Jim Shepard, developer of Dungeonmans, whose music Aversa had composed, taught Aversa the basics of the Unity engine; Aversa had previously taken only one programming course. Shepard was later hired as a writer and then as a programmer on Tangledeep.
  5. Andrew Aversa, a game music composer and remixer known as Zircon, began making Tangledeep in his spare time in 2016 without a plan or design document; it was his first game as lead designer and programmer.
"I had no plan or design document, and each day was more exciting."
