Assertion
Score following is the synchronisation of a computer with a performer playing a known musical score, often addressed as real-time automatic accompaniment. At IRCAM, research on it began with Barry Vercoe and Lawrence Beauregard in 1983 and was continued by Miller Puckette and Philippe Manoury; at least 15 IRCAM pieces from 1987 to 1997 relied on it, including Manoury's Sonus ex Machina and En echo and Boulez's Anthèmes II and Explosante-fixe.
