Claims

  1. JWST's NIRSpec PRISM observed a transit of WASP-39b on July 10, 2022; the transmission spectrum shows a prominent carbon dioxide absorption feature at 4.3 micrometres, detected at 26 sigma, after earlier Spitzer measurements had only hinted at CO2. WASP-39b has about Saturn's mass (0.28 Jupiter masses), a radius of 1.28 Jupiter radii, and an orbital period of 4.055 days.
