Claim ID
radius-gap
Assertion
Using precise radii for 2,025 Kepler planets, the study found at least a factor-of-two shortfall of planets between 1.5 and 2.0 Earth radii, splitting close-in small planets into super-Earths (under about 1.5 Earth radii) and sub-Neptunes (about 2 to 3 Earth radii). The authors interpret these as rocky cores with differing amounts of low-density gas.
