Tables read as tables on phones
Article tables now keep their rows and columns on small screens, instead of turning into a long stack of cards.
What shipped
- Tables stay tables on phones. On narrow screens, tables with up to three columns used to be rebuilt as a stack of cards, one per row, with the column name repeated above every cell. A two-column timeline, like the one in Firefox, read as a long list. Every article table now keeps its rows and columns. Narrow tables fit the screen; wider ones scroll sideways inside their frame, as wide tables already did.
All 46 articles with tables were checked at phone width: none of them makes the page itself scroll sideways.
The change is described in Proposal: Tables stay tables on phones.
